We are pleased to announce that the project Poetry Goes Outside is now in progress, and we are currently conducting research among young people to assess their awareness of poetry - both in their home countries and across Europe.

The study aims to analyse poetry awareness among younger generations through several key areas:

1. Demographic AnalysisThe primary section gathers demographic data, including country of birth, gender, age and educational/professional background. This information will help us understand how poetry awareness is distributed across different segments of society.

2. Knowledge & Awareness

This part focuses on participants’ knowledge and awareness of poetry, covering:

o   Awareness of specific poets and poems from native country.

o   Familiarity with European poetry.

o   Knowledge of Ukrainian poetry.

3. Engagement & Poetry SkillsThis section explores participants’ interactions with poetry, including:

o   Frequency of engaging with poetry.

o   Confidence in reading and interpreting poetry.

o   Interest in developing poetry-related skills and preferred learning methods.

o   Willingness to experience poetry in public spaces.

4. Poetry & Cultural HeritageThe final section examines poetry’s role in European cultural heritage and explores ways to make poetry more appealing to young audiences.

Next Steps

The insights gathered through this research will be compiled into a joint report, forming the foundation for the project’s key initiatives:

  • A collection of poetry

  • A series of poetry videos

  • Local poetry youth workshops

  • Poetry Goes Outside Week – a dedicated celebration of poetry in public spaces
