A.P.S.E: Archivio del Paesaggio Sonoro Ecologico (2024-1-IT03-KA210-YOU-000257244)

Objectives

  1. Providing an Educational Tool for Youth Workers: The project aims to offer youth workers an interdisciplinary, non-formal educational tool based on sound ecology. This will enhance their ability to engage with young people (16-30 years old) on biodiversity conservation through interactive and immersive learning experiences.

  2. Raising Awareness on Biodiversity Conservation: By utilizing the Ecological Soundscapes Archive (APSE), the project seeks to sensitize young beneficiaries to the importance of biodiversity through active participation in soundscape recordings and artistic performances.

  3. Improving Skills and Organizational Capacity of Partners: The project fosters competence-building among partner organizations, particularly in environmental education, digital tools, and community engagement. It also enhances networking and cross-sectoral collaboration to ensure long-term sustainability.

  4. Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Advocacy: The initiative includes the creation of a stakeholder network comprising schools, NGOs, universities, and environmental institutions, ensuring the project's impact extends beyond its immediate participants.

  5. Developing Open-Access Resources for Sound Ecology: The project will create an open-source digital archive of soundscapes, enabling users to understand and assess local biodiversity through geophony, biophony, and anthropophony, supported by AI-based species identification tools.

Project Results

  1. Soundscapes Digital Archive (APSE): Development of an interactive open-access web platform where recorded soundscapes will be stored, categorized, and analyzed using AI to map biodiversity, detect invasive species, and assess noise pollution.

  2. Capacity Building & Training Toolkit: A training course for 12 youth workers on the use of sound ecology as an educational tool. The project will also produce a practical guide to help youth workers implement sound-based environmental education.

  3. Public Performances and Local Engagement: Organization of 12 local events where youth workers and young participants will present the APSE, utilizing recorded sounds in artistic performances (music, sound art) focused on biodiversity awareness.

  4. Field Recording and Scientific Data Collection: Installation of automatic environmental recorders in selected habitats to continuously monitor soundscapes. These recordings will contribute to species mapping and environmental research.

  5. Stakeholder Network for Project Expansion: Establishment of collaborative partnerships with schools, NGOs, and research institutions to ensure project scalability and sustainability beyond its initial phase.

  6. Community and Policy Impact: Through outreach efforts and policy advocacy, the project aims to contribute to broader European biodiversity conservation strategies and integrate sound ecology into environmental education curricula.
